So, this is a remix outfit, I swear!
I had to swap out my white T (I've worn once) for a spirit shirt. We just got our choir Ts and I was DYING to wear it. I have my leopard shoes on, but I was running around barefoot during our photo shoot for musical. That is why we have a backdrop and stool and lighting equipment out.
Also, my show choir kids discussed how I could be a model from mid-calf down. I could! I mean, look at that ankle! Pretty feet too! So this is me modeling my best attribute! :)

17/30 - Gaga for this one!
One of the voice teachers on my campus said to me today, "I am just GAGA for those shoes!" He meant it as a pun referring to Lady Gaga, but I am gaga in the traditional sense for these! :)
We have been moving around the building this week, looking for new places to take our photos. Today, we are in the mail room. And (spoiler alert!) this is not my mailbox! The magic of behind the scenes...

The lighting was TERRIBLE, through no fault of Natalie. That's why I put a lightning bolt in the photo. You can't see my necklace, but it is amazing. I will wear it again!

16/30 - Yay, go America!
I realize this top sort of looks black, but it's actually navy. And, I am wearing red pants and silver jewelry. It was very "God Bless America" at the Super Bowl as a pop star.
Anyway, we took pics today on our stage and it is half set for the musical at the moment. I say half because only the mock-up is up, not the actual pretty set part. I took some other pics, but thumbs up was the winner. I was laughing cause Nat and Lana were freaking out about the stability of the set. I was like 250lb boys are dancing on this every day. It's fine! :)

15/30 - Halfway!
Natalie warned me that this day was coming. The day when I'd want to give up on the remix. I am not really wanting to give up, as much as I just need to plan a little bit for the next few days because if I don't, then I will want to quit!
I subbed out my black T shirt for this shirt last week, and I am so glad I did. I wore it on Saturday too, and I always feel so great in it.
I have a crazy one planned for tomorrow...let's see if I can pull it off! :)

14/30 - The Greatest Show on Earth!
This morning, I put on this H&M stripped shirt and my red jeans and my black boots and my black blazer and guess what.
I looked like a ringmaster for the circus.
So...I took off the blazer. Still looked like a costume. Changed the red pants, silhouette was too tight. Then put on the fuchsia cardigan. Finally. I looked like a human, not a character.

13/30 - Who I wanted to be...
This post title reminds me of the movie 13 going on 30. I love that movie. She was so cool and fashionable as a 30 year old! It gave me such hope for the future! Now that I am 30, I am happy that I am almost fashionable. :)
12/30 - Scat!
The Browns and Randalls went out on Friday night to celebrate Tim's 31st birthday. We went to UNO and then to the Flying Saucer. I had Tim take my remix picture in the alley outside Scat. Very cool picture!
11/30 - SJP and the City
This was my new blue Loft top. I had to buy this when I found it and it's Sarah Jessica Parker's fault!
When Tim and I went to New York last time, we saw Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in The Odd Couple. It was the opening night of previews so the audience was packed with celebs and the actors' families. Of course, that means, SJP was there to watch Matthew. We waited outside the stage door for almost an hour waiting for the leads and right before the came out, SJP did. She was wearing a navy, slightly flowy top and a long silvery necklace. Her hair was pulled back in a slick ponytail and she was gorgeous. I was so glad that I found this top, cause now I can be her! :)

10/30 - Comfy Cute!
I LOVED this outfit. Very comfy and very work appropriate. I felt good in it too, which is nice bonus! I was also very proud of the fact that I took my simple black dress and layered with the kooky Target top. My only regret is that I didn't wear my red pumps, for a pop of color.

9/30 - Welcome to the jungle.
Good news! You CAN have it all! And by that I mean, you can wear snakeskin silver kitten heels with leopard cardigans.
Or, at least, I did today and I think it looked cute. So if it didn't, don't tell me! :)
8/30 - Monday, Monday
So TIRED!!! At least my clothes were cute today!
We must have done "with the belt, without the belt" like 10 times today, but I think it pulled it together nicely. And apparently, I am very in for fall with my flow-y silk blouse. In plum. Cause that's how I autumn roll.
7/30 - Take you back to church!
First church outfit. My endlessly fashionable pastor's wife, Lara Beth, said I looked cute, so the outfit was a success! Anytime LB likes it, that must be a good thing! :)
My husband, who is actually a photographer, took this one for me on our front stoop. However, he wants me to clarify that it was taken with his iPhone and NOT his Canon. Just so you know. Now you can stop silently judging him, like I know you were.
6/30 - All State Auditions, Nowhere, TX
This past Saturday, we had the first round of All State choir auditions in Wichita Falls, TX. I say "Nowhere" because the picture is taken at a Dairy Queen in Henrietta, TX. Population: Lots of Cowboy Hats.
This is a pretty schlumpy outfit, BUT I love it!! Very casual chic I think. Plus, how can you not love the red spoon!

5/30, shoe poor
As I am writing my post tonight, I am at the Courtyard in WF. Working on the iPad. Very cool.
Nat looked at my items the other day and said "you have a lot of shoes in your remix." My reasoning is that I own a lot of shoes. How many? Well, I figured I better count. The answer is 86 pairs. BAM!!!

And, this is the one I really wanted to use:

4/30 - In Case Of Emergency
Follow the red pants! When we took pictures yesterday, Natalie took one in front of the fire exit in our courtyard and it was adorable. Of course, she didn't use it yesterday (fine, whatever) so you didn't see it. But, I figured since I was wearing fire engine red skinny jeans I probably should stand in front of the fire exit. :)
This outfit scared the crap out of me this morning cause it is a HUGE departure for me. Red, skinny pants, with giant heeled sandals, and a floral/abstract polka dot shirt. That is a lot of trend all at once. But, know what? Looks great! This next couple days will be a challenge since I am going out of town for work, I sometimes forget that 30 days is not just work days. I'll send you a picture on Saturday from Wichita Falls!
PS - Check out my friend Lana's blog. She is remixing too and she is the world traveling, boho chica I only wish I could be! :)

3/30, the old standby.
See the cardigan I am wearing? I've had this cardi since - wait for it - 1998. Almost 14 years! I have incoming 8th graders as old as this sweater. And know what? It still looks GREAT! No fading, no wear, no tear. Never wrinkles, hits my mid section at exactly the right place! Perfect for the remix because it can go over dresses or over tops with the same charm. None of this over-blouse-like, giant man cardigan-ness here! :)
Also, I wore this dress only once before, and that was to a very cool party that my friend LB was hosting as a charity event. I hung out with David Annable, Donald Fasion, and Geoff Stults in this dress, and it still works for school. I say that's a win! ($30 at JCP never looked so good!)
My hair is even the same. Weird.
September Race
I'm a little behind on posting my September Race stuff, but here you go!
I'm sorry, what's that you asked? Is that a TROPHY you're holding in the picture? Why yes. Yes it is! I placed second in the Athena division (which is for chicas who weigh more than 150 and don't want to run in the their age category (where they would get their butt whooped)). It was also the first day since May (no, literally May) that is wasn't 100 degrees! I was almost chilly! Almost.

2/30 - and the tale of the lost discount.
Once upon a time, in a kingdom not unlike our own, there lived a princess named Jen. And while Jen was excited to be a new choir director in Texas, something was missing in her life. She had her husband, a beautiful home, and was even going on her first school trip to Disney World (her real favorite kingdom), but alas, the fair lass' hubby had no job.
And then, out of the blue, an offer to be a graphic designer in the retail industry. "Which store," she cried out in shrill tones, "I beseech thee! Which store, good sir?!"
"Why fair maiden," he replied, "I shall henceforth be employed at the House of Dillard's." And her heart rejoiced for she knew she would now be getting a 30% (with an occasional extra 25%) discount at a beautiful department store in her kingdom.
And the princess was indeed happy; buying all the clothes, shoes, accessories and occasional housewares her heart desired. However, it was not to be. Five years in, her beloved discount was cut short by an evil corporate plot called consolidation. Her prince was no longer in the service of Dillard's, and so, her discount disappeared.
So, good people of my blog, when you see an item in my 30/30 labeled Dillard's, tip your hat in recognition of the good deal it was and take a moment in silence to recognize, the fallen discount.

1/30
Today is the first day of the rest of my closet.
Mother nature is not cooperating with my desire to wear my new fall pieces that I put in the remix. So as much as I wanted to start with the olive cords from Loft, here I am in my summer LBD. Works great with the cardi though, and I am VERY comfy. So...not bad! :)

30/30 Remix
I am embarking on a journey. A journey deep into the recesses of my closet to get some new outfits. I will be doing the Kendi inspired 30/30 closet remix starting tomorrow morning. The goal is to get 30 different outfits from your closet with only 30 specific pieces. After days of list making, here's what I've come up with for my pieces:
I have ordered red pants from Old Navy that haven't come in yet. If I like them when I get them, I will sub out the cream J-Crew T for the pants. See you in the morning for 1/30!
It's not history to me
When I woke up this morning, I didn't feel any different. I didn't think, "wow, it's been 10 years since the world changed." And yet, of course, I did feel different then I did 10 years ago today.
I feel different everyday if you are looking at it from the context of history. I feel different today than 1 year ago. Than one month ago. Time changes people, it has to. But today itself is different because it is a big anniversary, which of course makes you reflect on the differences.
On 9/11/2001, I woke up with some type of ailment that sent me to the University Health Center. Since that's where I was when I found out, you'd think I would have taken the time to memorize the small fact of why I was at the doctor, but that's the thing about life changing events. You often don't know they will have a life before/after effect until many years later. I do know it was an ailment serious enough to make me miss my first class. Ok, that could have been a paper cut, cause really, who wants to go to a 7:30am teaching methods class... (see, I remember that part!)
I was sitting in the triage area, having my temperature taken and the nurse comes in and says, "did you hear an airplane accidentally flew in to one of the Trade Center Buildings in New York?" I said, "Whoops! Somebody's getting fired!" Yep. Actually said that. The day that changed America, "whoops, somebody's getting fired." Yikes. Not my finest hindsight moment.
The day unfolded from there with me going to class, only to discover no professor was having it. As a music major, most of my classes were in one central building and we all sat in the recital hall and watched the news on the projector. I do remember that one of my professors later in the morning came to get my classmates and said "watching it isn't going to solve it, let's have class." And we did. And it was weird. Later that afternoon I sought out my voice lesson teacher to cancel my lesson. She seemed relieved as well, since all anyone wanted to do at that point was pray or watch the news.
I was dating a guy name Joe at the time who was a freshman at USC at the time. I had called him in the morning to tell him to turn on the TV and he seemed oblivious to the importance of doing that. I will say that while I had no way of know the significance of that day, I did have the wherewithal to know that I needed to be informed. That this was going to be an event we would discuss until no one could watch the footage of the towers collapsing anymore, as we knew now that the collapse disintegrated many lives into a fine powder that covered us.
The other thing about this day that has become interesting to me as I've gotten older is that Fall 2001 is the only time I faithfully kept a journal in my whole life. I can tell you how it changed me, because I can see it on the page. Below are excerpts from 9/10, 9/11 and 9/12.
As I watch 9/11 anniversary coverage, I am once again hit by my initial thought, which is that this is not history to me. It HAPPENED to me. How can anything you personally expierence ever be that distant, bookish word called history. Ben will never know 9/11 for anything more than some documentaries and a chapter in his APUSH text. But I know, I remember. They say never forget, but how could I?
